family and close friends are the best part of me. spending time with them is a blessing. i don’t need a specific reason for coming home. being able to be with the people that make me whole should be reason enough. simple as that.
Honestly at times like this, I’ve never loved my school more.
Here’s some background info. Scotty is a senior at my school and he is one of the sweetest, friendliest, most enthusiastic people I know. He’s that person who will always give you a smile and hug even if you don’t know him personally. But after the initial meeting, you can’t help but love him.
Well anyways, at prom last weekend, it was announced that Scotty had won prom king. The whole place erupted into cheers as we chanted “Scotty, Scotty, Scotty!” Prom was amazing, but nothing can top the look on Scotty’s face when he came up to the stage to receive his crown.
Sounds like a typical story of an All-American popular jock who got what he was destined for?
Wrong.
Scotty is a special-needs student with autism but we have never treated him like he was any different. We nominated him because we loved him and because there was no one else better. There were also four other boys who were nominated for prom king but they all dropped out because they wanted Scotty to win.
As a part of the school’s “Best Buddies Club,” I’ve heard Scotty’s mom say she was grateful that Westiew has accepted Scotty wholeheartedly and that because of Westview, he has thrived and become more confident.
However, I don’t think Scotty has any idea what a positive impact he has had on us for the last four years because even though we all hang out in different groups, Scotty was our link. He was what we all had in common and I don’t think our school would’ve been as close if it wasn’t for him. I’m so proud to be graduating with him on June 7.
I have been in school with Scotty since Elementary school and I am blessed to personally call him my good friend. We have preformed in pep rallies and dance shows together. Everyone get’s to see his bright smile and hear his incredibly loud cheering at just about every single school event! He is truly an amazing guy. I even got to see him be crowned as Prom King and I could not have been more proud and excited for him. Words cannot describe how wonderful of a person he is and I’m just grateful to have him as a friend in my life. He encourages all those around him to smile and embrace every single day with positive energy and excitement. :) <3

good on you westview. proud alumni. scotty’s always been that fellow wolverine that always would make you smile. constantly saying hi to everyone around school. he always has a smile on his face, always a gentleman to the ladies, and always would help out around school picking up trash. good on you westview, he truly is a wolverine, congrats prom king!
